End Of Lease Cleaning | 4 Ways To Remove Pet Urine Odour From Carpets To Get Your Entire Security Deposit Back

by Ralph Rodriquez

If you're moving out of a rental apartment, you'll want to do everything possible to present a clean house to the landlord if you want to get your entire security deposit back. Getting rid of pet urine odour from carpets requires some specific steps to remove all traces, so follow this carpet cleaning guide when you're looking to get back your security deposit. If you cannot handle the task on your own, a professional end-of-lease cleaning company will remove traces of the odour.

Absorb Any Wet Urine From The Carpet Immediately

If the carpet area is still wet with urine, then your first step should be to absorb it as much as possible. Letting it dry naturally encourages the growth of bacteria, which eventually results in the odour. Place several paper towels over the urine-filled area and soak up as much as possible. You'll have to do this a couple of times until most of the urine has been removed. If the urine has dried on the carpet completely, you will need to proceed directly to the next step.

Prepare A Solution Of Vinegar And Water

Prepare a solution of water and white vinegar in equal quantities in a spray bottle and mix well. Spray the solution over the urine-filled area of the carpet. Incorporate the solution into the fibres of the carpet using a soft brush. Once done, let the solution sit for several minutes before blotting with a paper towel to absorb the mixture. Vinegar is an acidic liquid, so it neutralises the ammonia present in pet urine.

Sprinkle Baking Soda Over The Carpet

Once the carpet dries slightly, sprinkle baking soda generously over the dirtied area. Baking soda is a natural disinfectant, so it reacts with the urine to completely neutralise the foul odour from it. Let the baking soda sit over the urine-soiled area for several hours. The disinfectant properties of baking soda eventually leave the room smelling fresh and clean — exactly what you're looking for during end-of-lease cleaning.

Vacuum The Carpet

Once you're satisfied that all traces of pet urine have been removed from your carpet, vacuum it to remove the baking soda sprinkles. You may need a brush to loosen any baking soda powder that has integrated into the carpet fibres. While you're at it, vacuum the entire carpet as thoroughly as possible to remove all traces of baking soda, pet hair and pet faeces.

Follow these steps to get your entire security deposit back when you leave your rental property. If you cannot do it on your own, a professional end-of-lease cleaning company can help ensure your carpets get cleaned properly.

Cleaning Challenges and Solutions: A Cleaning Blog

Welcome to my blog. My name is Andrew. At home, my wife does all the cooking, but cleaning is my job. I also own a small business. As a result, I'm charged with keeping things clean at both work and home. At work, I have a cleaning crew that comes in nightly, and I have specialists (carpet cleaners, window washers, etc) who come in as needed. At home, my kids do chores, and I handle most of the rest. I only outsource dry cleaning and a bit of seasonal deep cleaning. In this blog, I am going to write about keeping your home and office clean. I plan to include a range of tips, and I hope that they help you. Thank you for reading!
